Nutrisystem is Pleased to See Additional Research Supporting Low Glycemic Index Diets
Fort Washington, PA, June 27, 2012 - Nutrisystem, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTRI), a leading provider of weight management products and services is pleased by recently published research in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) that found benefits to a low glycemic index diet. The study, published on June 27, 2012 in JAMA, concluded: “These findings suggest that a strategy to reduce glycemic load rather than dietary fat may be advantageous for weight-loss maintenance and cardiovascular disease prevention.” Researchers from the New Balance Foundation Obesity Prevention Center at Boston Children’s Hospital conducted the study.
According to a Wall Street Journal article on the study, which quoted Dr. David Ludwig, the director of the Center and an author of the study, “Those on the low-glycemic-index diet burned about 150 calories a day more than those on the low-fat diet without any negative impacts on cholesterol levels or various hormones, making it the ideal diet.”
“Low GI diets have now been studied for more than 30 years, all around the world,” noted Dr. Bruce Daggy, Nutrisystem’s Chief Science Officer. “Today’s study in JAMA is further evidence that low GI eating is a safe and effective way to manage your weight. Nutrisystem foods are clinically tested to determine their glycemic index values, so we know that our program is low GI. This makes Nutrisystem an easy way to get started on a low GI diet and experience the benefits of losing weight, maintaining it and getting healthier.”
The Nutrisystem® SUCCESSTM approach is designed to help take the weight off and keep it off through frequent, portion-controlled, balanced nutrition and low Glycemic Index eating.
